Visiting students and orphans at New Day Foster Home in Beijing

November 2011 │ China

On October 29, a group of staff volunteers from Deutsche Bank Beijing visited New Day Foster Home and had a tour of the new two-story center, which operates as a home for 23 children and a school for another 30 children who are living with families in the area.

Mr. Gao, the teacher on duty, gave a brief introduction of the children resident at the foster home and of their medical conditions. After the children woke up from their naps, staff volunteers spent the afternoon reading fairy tales to them, watching movies, playing musical instruments and games bringing many cheerful smiles to the children's faces and much joy and laughter.

In addition, grants from the Deutsche Bank Initiative Plus programme and employee donations supported medical surgeries for three ill children. Staff volunteers had the opportunity to meet two of the children, Jonathan and Lena, in the intensive care room. Jonathan had heart surgery and was recovering very well.  Lena's cleft palate surgery is scheduled for June 2012 while the third child Asa’s anal atresia surgery will be in December 2011.
