Volunteers from Mumbai Service Centre assist with Painting Walls of an Orphanage at Balanand

September 2013 │ India

It was truly a colourful Saturday morning on September 28, dipped in the hues of Corporate Responsibility as volunteers, armed with paints and brushes, assisted with painting the compound walls of World Children Welfare Trust India, also known as Balanand.

DBOI Global Services has been supporting this orphanage and home for differently-abled children through various initiatives such as donations, visiting the children and organising entertainment events for them, sponsoring meals, and participating in fund raising events. However this time, at the request of the organisation, Deutsche Bank not only sponsored the cost of painting but also decided to get more involved by painting the walls themselves. In this four-hour event, volunteers were guided by professional painters in applying the second coat of paint to the compound walls, a total of 2195 square feet surface area. Further internal square blocks on the walls were painted in a darker shade which required finer skills in painting to ensure only the required blocks were painted and there was no spillage or dribbling of paint over the remaining surface. What initially started as a fun activity turned into some serious sweat breaking work, as volunteers displayed their finesse to near professional levels.

Mrs. Sulochana Kalro, the founder and director of Balanand, commented, “This is truly a unique event. I have always appreciated these volunteers coming and spending time with the children, playing and dancing, but am surprised that they are equally involved in decorating the house of our children.” She further expressed that she would be keen to receive support from Deutsche Bank volunteers in various construction related activities involving repair and renovation work. and the volunteers are looking forward to support all work that comes their way.

As always, the volunteers distributed sweets and promised the children that they would visit again.
