I attend the fortnightly Australia / New Zealand Corporate Finance team meeting. These meetings take place every two weeks. Each product team (Mergers & Acquisitions, Equity Capital Markets, and Leveraged Debt Capital Markets (LDCM), which is where I work) presents an overview of what’s been happening in their market during the past week.
I prepared our debt market update over the weekend. The Australian LDCM market is small and we are at a quiet point in the deal cycle, so there are only 10 deals to discuss right now. But we are expecting a lot of activity later in the year.
The update is presented by the Director in my team. There are five of us in all – a Managing Director, Director, Vice President, Associate (me) and a graduate. Being part of a small team has been a real advantage to my professional development. I’ve been able to take on extra responsibility and received more exposure than most of my peers.
I chose Corporate Finance because I was attracted to the dynamic, challenging environment and the learning opportunities. The training is excellent. The work can be very demanding, but if you work hard and do the hours your commitment is recognized and rewarded. You can learn fast and progress quickly.
