I arrive in the office. I’ve already looked at my overnight emails from Switzerland and Guernsey, where our trust business is headquartered, on the way in on my Blackberry. I head to our pantry to grab a coffee. On the way I pass colleagues from Singapore, India, Germany, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines – we are truly an international bank.
The first task of the day is to deal with an issue with a third party service provider in Luxembourg over a revenue sharing agreement. My assistant in Geneva has sent me the relevant documents overnight and I check Legal shares our view, which they do. Nothing is done unilaterally in a global bank. I make a note of the key points to put to the service provider on our call tomorrow. Hopefully they will agree, otherwise we may have to take legal action.
My assistant in Geneva is a legacy of my six years there as Global Head of Insurance Solutions for the bank. I became Head of Wealth Management Solutions for Asia Pacific in 2009. I’m responsible for promoting holistic wealth planning solutions to clients’ needs through estate, succession and cross border planning.
I am British but Asia has always been in my blood. I was born in Singapore and lived in Hong Kong, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur as a child. I love the people and diversity of cultures here. I’m delighted to be back in this part of the world.
