There are two parts to my role. One is portfolio management. Every day I am learning about the responsibilities of a portfolio manager – observing the market, interpreting macro and micro economic factors, designing portfolios, identifying risks, and creating value for clients.
Since joining the team I’ve also been given extra responsibility as the sector specialist for European retail, which is a very motivating sign of confidence in a junior member of the team.
I cover three consumer companies in France and Germany. I meet with the management teams to understand their business models and performance. It’s a welcome opportunity to use my language skills, as I speak both French and German. My recommendations to buy, sell or hold the bonds issued by these companies are published on our internal research platform.
My other role involves working directly with the head of our division on strategic issues – identifying risk exposures on the credit platform, creating and testing new fund products, and presenting new strategies and product ideas.
I like this dual aspect and the mix of responsibilities I’ve been given. As well as the day to day management of investment portfolios, I’m involved in shaping the future of the business.
