I manage a portfolio of commercial properties in the UK and Europe that includes retail warehouse parks, industrial estates, shopping centers and offices.
I’m responsible for all leasing and sales activity and implementing asset management initiatives to maximize returns to the investment fund. I have a lot of freedom to use my own initiative and apply my own ideas on how to make money for the fund, for example through restructuring the portfolio or by developing properties.
Good communication skills are important in this job. A lot of time is spent on the phone to agents, consultants and lawyers. You have to know what’s happening at all times. You need to be good with numbers too, to forecast returns, model deals and analyze whether to hold or sell properties.
I like unpredictability. My job can be intense at times, when a deal is happening or during busy reporting periods. Most days I’m at my desk, but I travel to the Netherlands and Germany regularly and throughout the UK for meetings and to review properties.
