When I graduated I chose a career in Risk because it allows you to develop an impressive skill set. You have to understand the individual details of a transaction, while also knowing the broader context of the economic climate you are working in. Having a feel for the current financial landscape, knowledge of how we got there, and a view on where we are going, is imperative.
I did the analyst internship at Deutsche Bank the year before I started the graduate training program in the Risk Department, in London. I would say in general Deutsche Bank invests a lot in trainee programs. The people that you work with are extremely intelligent, so you always feel motivated to develop.
As a result of participating in the internship and training program I have been able to see quite a bit of the Bank. I have sat with our Credit Chief Operating Office, our Portfolio Reporting team, our ratings team in Mumbai and our Emerging Markets Team. Having the chance to get such a varied experience so early in my career has proved extremely valuable and I’ve met a lot of great people along the way.
