I have been with Deutsche Bank since January 2008. I joined from Henkel Cosmetics and Leifheit AG, where I was responsible for the sales and marketing of consumer products. The idea of bringing my consumer experience to the world of banking was appealing. I enjoy the creative friction of applying successful ideas and models in new contexts.
I had five interviews with the senior management of Private and Business Clients. I understand why that was necessary. It was a bold move to bring me in from outside the industry.
Gathering all kinds of experience has been a theme of my career. I have been open to wherever opportunity may take me and whatever may occur. After I studied History, Economics and Japanese at university, I spent over a year studying and teaching in Japan. So when Henkel did a joint venture with a Japanese company, I was a natural choice to go out there.
It was soon apparent that the business wasn’t going to work, so I closed it down. You can’t be afraid to try new things. All experience has something to teach us.
