I work on business transformation projects that improve how we function as an organisation. A recent example is offshoring, which involved setting up regional shared service centres to make our operations more efficient. There are a number of phases to each project, from planning through implementation to post-implementation review, when we measure the results against the project objectives and identify areas where we can improve. The projects are usually short, over several months. The aim is to secure quick wins. We are problem solvers. We figure out how to make things work, or work better. When our work is done it’s very satisfying to see the benefits in action.
We are partnering with the business more and more, which is raising our profile and bringing new opportunities. That’s exciting. Being part of small team, I’ve enjoyed a much higher level of responsibility than I expected at this stage in my career. It’s not been my experience that graduates do all the grunt work. There is equality in my team. I do the same work and receive the same level of respect as more senior colleagues.
