Managing our eco-efficiency measures: Collecting environmental data

To effectively manage our eco-efficiency measures, we collect all relevant environmental data. The figures are consolidated in a global database, enabling us to efficiently analyze data and identify potential optimization points.

Data on energy consumption, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, waste, paper, and water consumption are consolidated in a global database that systematically records and analyzes data. We use software that saves several million data records from the last five years and allows us to analyze environmental initiatives and their results.
For example, the analysis shows the impact of using renewable energy on the reduction of our carbon emissions.

We verify and evaluate key indicators on the basis of current data and trends so that our carbon emissions can be predicted and the quantity of offset certificates needed to achieve our reduction target reduction target can be determined.

Collecting environmental data according to ISO

The tool covers all locations with significant energy consumption and currently covers more than 65 percent of our energy use. On the basis of these data, we extrapolate the consumption for non-reporting sites and arrive at the results for our total energy consumption and GHG emissions. The results are quantified and reported in line with the international GHG standard ISO 14064. The data collection, internal reporting processes and Certified Emission Reduction (CER) purchases have been reviewed by ERM Certification and Verification Services (ERM CVS).
