Deutsche Bank financed offshore wind project wins multiple Deal of the Year awards
The transaction was awarded “Wind Deal of the Year 2015”. Environmental Finance called it a “game changer” for offshore wind: it had broken new ground in the way it was financed.
Last year, Deutsche Bank jointly led a euro 2.8 billion deal to finance Europe’s second-largest offshore wind farm. Deutsche Bank was a mandated lead arranger, bookrunner, hedging coordinator and syndication bank for the “Gemini” deal.
The transaction now was awarded Environmental Finance Wind Deal of the Year 2015. It had also won two awards from Infrastructure Journal Global: Europe & Africa Overall Deal of the Year and European Wind Deal of the Year. Project Finance International also awarded European Power Deal of the Year.
A “shot in the arm” for the offshore wind industry
“The fact the deal closed within six months was a real shot in the arm for the offshore wind industry,” says Dominik Thumfart, Head of Infrastructure and Energy in Corporate Finance.
Deutsche Bank is one of the largest financiers of renewable energy. In 2014, we provided around euro 1 billion in capital which helped finance projects of value more than euro 4.3 billion and with a total capacity of approximately 1.8GW.
