Planting trees for better drinking water – Deutsche Bank employees create new woodlands

Out of suits and business dress and into working clothes and rubber boots: More than 3,400 Deutsche Bank employees are committed to active protection of woodlands. To date, they have planted 44,000 new trees, thus creating healthy mixed deciduous forests that supply more drinking water – 12 million liters a year.

One city, 12 months, 12 project – and 100 percent enthusiasm (in German)

In the region, for the region and for “their” city of Essen: For an entire year, Heike Erhardt, Ingo Ottmann and 120 other Deutschbankers rolled up their sleeves to support 12 projects recommended by city residents. The projects included the renovation of an elementary school.

For years, the bank has supported participation in nonprofit projects as part of its Team Challenge program, which allows for paid leave. Their participation strengthens team spirit by bringing entire departments together to work hand in hand. Through their participation in Team Challenges, Deutschbankers achieve a lot in a little time.

There are many possibilities to make a difference together. Whether it is renovating social services facilities, planting trees to generate drinking water, organizing a benefit concert or helping after a natural disaster: bank employees offer practical hands-on support. Direct support is particularly needed in regions devastated by natural disasters such as Haiti, Pakistan, Japan and East Africa as well as New York. Alongside financial support, Deutsche Bank also helps through the direct involvement of its employees like after the destructions left by Typhoon Haiyan in many regions of the Philippines in 2013.

Employees can select the initiatives they wish to support. In 2014, employees thus initiated and organized more than 1,100 projects.
