Triple Impact: Deutsche Bank supports UNRWA’s Community Mental Health Programme through Matching Campaign

For the second year in a row, Deutsche Bank will be supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to provide psychosocial support to Gaza’s children through UNRWA’s Community Mental Health Programme.

This continued partnership comes as a result of successfully supporting 8,311 children and 376 parents in the 2018 - 2019 academic year with access to psycho-social support (in the form of individual and group counselling sessions,  awareness sessions with parents and special school initiatives addressing students’ psychosocial well-being) from 3 school-based counselors in Gaza.

In order to maximize impact of this upcoming programme, Deutsche Bank and UNRWA launched a 72-hour matching campaign in light of World Mental Health Day in order to raise funds from the public. World Mental Health Day is held every year on October 10th and celebrates awareness for the global community in an empathetic way, with a unifying voice, helping people feel hopeful by empowering them to take action and create lasting change. The matching campaign was extremely successful and exceeded the initial estimated funds by three times.

Following the successful matching campaign, Deutsche Bank’s very own Maya Bsat, COO UAE, presented the bank’s work with UNRWA at an event hosted by them in Dubai on October 12th 2019, which aimed to highlight the impactful work UNRWA and it’s partners are doing across the region to support Palestine refugees.

UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and mandated to provide assistance and protection to some 5.4 million Palestine refugees registered with UNRWA across its five fields of operation. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip achieve their full human development potential, pending a just and lasting solution to their plight. UNRWA services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, protection and microfinance.
