Deutsche Bank is partner of the first Frieze Art Fair in New York

Deutsche Bank is now the main sponsor of all three Frieze Art Fairs on both sides of the Atlantic
Deutsche Bank is continuing to expand its global commitment to contemporary art and is partner to the first Frieze Art Fair to take place in New York (May 4-7, 2012). This makes Deutsche Bank the main sponsor of all three Frieze Art Fairs on both sides of the Atlantic. It has supported the Frieze Art Fair in London since 2004. The fair is held in October and this year is being expanded to include the Frieze Art Masters.

Pierre de Weck, Member of the Group Executive Committee of Deutsche Bank and Chairman of the bank’s Global Art Advisory Council: “The Frieze Art Fair London is one of today’s most internationally significant cultural events. Our involvement has the aim of creating access to contemporary art. This is why we are also supporting the Frieze Art Fair in New York. We are convinced that it will rapidly develop into one of the leading art fairs on the American continent.”

At Randall’s Island Park, where over 180 of the world’s leading galleries are presenting their work, pieces of artwork from the corporate collection will be on display in the Deutsche Bank lounge. Under the title “The sight of sound”, artworks will be featured that have a focus on music. The selection includes works from artists such as Gerhard Richter, Hanne Darboven, Christian Marcaly and Jennie C. Jones.

Deutsche Bank has set new benchmarks around the world with its commitment to contemporary art and has long maintained a presence at selected art fairs at key international locations. In addition to the Frieze Art Fair, these include ART HK in Hong Kong, TEFAF in Maastricht and the Tokyo Art Fair in Japan.

With its own art collection as well as through international exhibitions and cooperation projects such as the current sponsorship of the Whitney Biennale in New York, Deutsche Bank has been making contemporary art accessible around the world under the motto “Art Works” for more than 30 years. The Deutsche Bank collection is now one of the most significant corporate collections in the world and is on display at over 900 international locations.

In addition, with its “Artist of the Year” award, Deutsche Bank honours and supports current artists who explore societal topics in an individual way and who have already created an extraordinary piece of art involving work on paper or photography. To date, the Slovakian artist Roman Ondák (2012), the Moroccan artist Yto Barrada (2011) and the Kenyan artist Wangechi Mutu (2010) have all been named Deutsche Bank’s Artist of the Year.
