Deutsche Bank is supporting the costly “More light!” light sculpture in Brussels to mark Germany’s term as President of the EU Council. The project, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) is a part of the Goethe Institute Brussels' cultural programme. "This is another way in which we would like to demonstrate how important supporting the process of European unification is to us", said Dr. Josef Ackermann, Chairman of the Management Board and of the Group Executive Committee of Deutsche Bank AG.
The interactive light installation by the Frankfurt-based artists Anny and Sibel Öztürk will be illuminating Brussels’ Rond Point Schuman, where the EU Commission and Council of Ministers are located, from January 18 to the April 30, 2007. The open steel construction, measuring several metres high, is to bring the attention of passers-by and tourists to this, from the point of view of the EU, central, but otherwise barely noticed section of Brussels’ city centre. During this period, all acoustic impulses will be registered by microphone and converted into a variety of light and colour patterns: as the action on the plaza becomes more lively, the light spectrum shines more colourfully and the change in effects accelerates.
In addition to social and education programmes, supporting the arts and music is one of the most important components of Deutsche Bank’s commitment as a corporate citizen. Having funded projects to the tune of EUR 90 million worldwide in 2005, Deutsche Bank, together with its foundations, is one of the most socially committed companies.
