Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation commits $1.2 Million to Community Revitalization in New York

Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Deutsche Bank in the United States, today announced a $1.2 million commitment to local cultural organizations and community revitalization in New York City through its Arts and Enterprise program. Deutsche Bank launched the Arts and Enterprise program in 2003 to encourage the use of the arts, culture, and the creative sector to drive neighborhood economic development. Since its launch, Deutsche Bank has provided over $2.5 million in funds to community based cultural organizations, granting some 30 awards over the past four years.

“The Arts and Enterprise grants bridge organizations to one another, fully leveraging the cultural assets of a local neighborhood for broad community benefit,” said Gary Hattem President of the Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation. "This year's awardees demonstrate the diversity, as well as continuing vitality and inventiveness, of New York City's cultural sector."

The Arts and Enterprise place-based revitalization grant will fund the following nine community cultural organizations, which work to strengthen the arts and local economy in New York City:

  • Bronx Council on the Arts, a non-profit, membership organization, is the official cultural agency of Bronx County. The Arts and Enterprise grant will help the Council develop a business center located in the South Bronx to provide an array of services to both institutional and individual collectors of fine arts. Additionally, the grant will fund daytime trolley tours of fine arts professionals to seek out potential Bronx-based creative industry contractors.
  • Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, a not-for-profit local development corporation, has a mission to restore the “Main Street” of the Fort Greene and Clinton Hill communities in Brooklyn. The Arts and Enterprise grant will support a marketplace for local artisans that will center on the theme of “Afropunk”, and key off the annual music festival of the same name promoted by the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
  • Asian American Arts Alliance is a consortium of arts and community groups dedicated to strengthening Asian American arts & cultural groups in New York City through funding, visibility initiatives and access to new resources. The Arts and Enterprise grant will support the Alliance’s enhanced marketing and communications platform for the many cultural groups of Chinatown.
  • Coney Island USA, a not-for-profit corporation based in the cultural landmark area of Coney Island, Brooklyn, which seeks to lead the cultural revival of the area by operating a multi-arts center offering museum and theater programming. The Arts and Enterprise grant will support Coney Island USA’s new museum facility, and its efforts to preserve the cultural heritages of the midway, vaudeville and burlesque which were born in this working class cultural community.
  • Fourth Arts Block, an association of 13 non-profit cultural and community organizations all based on East 4th street between the Bowery and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan, is home to a diverse range of arts groups with an outstanding record for community outreach, racial and ethnic diversity, artistic exploration and free and low-cost programs for emerging artists, youth and the general public. The Arts and Enterprise grant will help Fourth Arts Block strengthen the small cultural institutions that form its core membership, promote its many performances and events, and implement new streetscape and community design efforts to improve visibility and access.
  • Heart of Brooklyn is a partnership of the leading cultural institutions located near Grand Army Plaza in central Brooklyn which encourages tourism and learning by making its world-class collections and historic treasures more visible and accessible. The Arts and Enterprise grant will provide transportation for visitors from Manhattan to the sites and support cultural programming in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.
  • Lincoln Center is the world’s leading performing arts center, and a major contributor to New York City’s cultural and intellectual life and economy. The Arts and Enterprise grant will support Lincoln Center in leveraging its programming, marketing resources, and prominent brand in order to support the La Casita festival and present local artists to cultural tourists and visitors to the South Bronx.
  • MoCADA, the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts, is Brooklyn’s first museum devoted to utilizing the visual arts to address, discuss, debate and resolve contemporary social, political and economic issues affecting people of the African Diaspora. The Arts and Enterprise grant will support a marketing campaign to provide greater visibility and access to MoCADA’s exhibitions, educational activities and events.
  • Bronx River Art Center is an independent, non-profit, multi-arts organization dedicated to providing art and environmental programming for residents of the Bronx. The Arts and Enterprise grant will allow the Center to strengthen local program outreach objectives and act as an information center on the Bronx River Greenway.
