Deutsche Bank is today presenting the new art in the Towers of its modernized Group Head Office in Frankfurt. A revitalized and more international presentation of works by 60 different artists, exhibited on 60 floors and depicting a unique cross-section of global contemporary art, now awaits employees, clients and visitors.
The artworks on display in the Towers, including the rooms that are also open to the public, comprise 1,500 drawings, collages and photographs – many of them newly acquired for the collection – created by around 100 artists from more than 40 different countries.
Pierre de Weck, member of the Group Executive Committee and Chairman of Deutsche Bank’s Art Advisory Council, explained that “Deutsche Bank has become a global bank in recent years. This is reflected in the art from around the world on display in the refurbished Towers. No other bank in the world offers such a progressive platform for art in its own premises.”
As in the mid-eighties when it first moved into the towers, the Deutsche Bank has decided to dedicate each of the 60 floors – arranged according to the five business regions of the bank – to one of the artists. The work of young avant-garde artists from Germany and Europe is on display in Tower A, whereas Tower B contains pieces by artists from the Asia/Pacific, the Americas and MiddleEast/Africa.
According to Friedhelm Hütte, Global Head of Art at Deutsche Bank, “A new generation of artists has moved into the Towers, one that offers a unique insight into art around the globe.”
Deutsche Bank was advised on the new acquisitions by a panel of experts, which included the renowned international art curators Okwui Enwezor, Hou Hanru, Udo Kittelmann and Nancy Spector. For over 30 years, Deutsche Bank has been collecting contemporary art under the motto of “Art works”. Its collection is now considered to be among the most significant corporate collections in the world.
The new art in the Towers, which is open to the public for guided tours, is intended primarily to foster creativity. This is also the aim of one of the series of events accompanying the re-opening, which is entitled “Globe. For Frankfurt and the World”. From March 2 until April 15, 2011, artists from around the world will be running a public programme on the ground floor of the Group Head Office that will include films, videos, music and discussions.
