Deutsche Bank’s Middle East Foundation partners with “Edge of Arabia” to Support Saudi Art

As part of Deutsche Bank’s global commitment to support Contemporary Art, the Middle East Foundation has recently entered into a partnership with Edge of Arabia (EoA) to support and mentor 8 Saudi women artists by providing them with the appropriate exposure to develop their artistic talents accordingly. EoA is a creative movement and touring exhibition brining the relatively unknown Contemporary Art and Culture of Saudi Arabia to an international audience.

As part of the cooperation, DB sponsored the exhibition “TRANSiTION” in Istanbul, one of the world’s most culturally historic and significant cities. The exhibition is part of the official Exhibition Programme of the European Capital of Culture 2010 and is the largest show ever for Gulf Artists in Turkey.

“TRANSiTION” is a showcase of 22 emerging Saudi Artists who are pushing the boundaries of Contemporary Art practices of Saudi Arabia. The exhibition contains a full range of installations, performance, photography, paintings, videos and sculptures. It references the extraordinary era of change that young Saudi artists are living in, and how they choose to document shifting concepts of themselves, faith, culture and Society in their Art.

The Middle East Foundation is Deutsche Bank’s most recently established foundation (2008) with an up to date commitment of Euro 1 million. The Middle East Foundation has been heavily involved in the arts in the region, in addition to sustainability, social investments, and education.

Henry Azzam, Chairman of the Middle East Foundation, said “For decades, Deutsche Bank has promoted promising young artists around the Globe to cultivate an environment that fosters creativity and innovation. Through our Middle East Foundation we continue to bring our unparalleled global commitment to Art and Culture into one of our key growth regions.”

Jamal Alkishi, CEO Deutsche Securities Saudi Arabia, emphasized that: “We are delighted and proud to support Saudi Artists to express themselves in one of the most culturally significant cities in the world and contribute to the cultural development of the global society.”

Stephen Stapleton, EoA Director, confirmed that “Edge of Arabýa is delighted to welcome Deutsche Bank as co-title sponsor of Edge of Arabia Istanbul. We are very proud to be collaborating with one of the most respected supporters of contemporary art around the world.”

The show will be held in Sant Limani in Istanbul and will stay in display until 26th December.
