Deutsche Bank Presenting Works To Be Loaned to the Städel Museum at TEFAF

Once again, Deutsche Bank will be presenting itself at the European Fine Art Fair TEFAF (March 13-22, 2009) in Maastricht in the Netherlands and thus will be continuing its many years of commitment at one of the world’s leading art and antiques fairs.

Under the motto “First Choice: the Deutsche Bank Collection and the Städel Museum,” in its Art Lounge the bank will be providing a foretaste of one of the most important events in the history of the corporate collection. For the opening of the extension of the Städel Museum in Frankfurt in 2011, Deutsche Bank will be loaning 600 works to the museum. As a tribute to this milestone, the bank is presenting a selection of the works to visitors now, inviting them to take an associative journey through recent Germany art history.

Alluding to the classical “Petersburg hanging,” series and individual works hung close together will extend across the wood-paneled walls of the lounge. With interplay between different techniques, media, and materials, the variety of tension-filled German art of the sixties, seventies, and eighties unfolds.

The Deutsche Bank Collection was founded in 1979 and today is considered the most important corporate collection of drawings and photographs since 1945 and is one of the biggest corporate collections worldwide. Deutsche Bank has had a partnership with the Städel Museum for many years. Recently, the bank supported the touring exhibition “The Master of Flémalle and Rogier von der Weyden,” which after its premiere at the Städel on March 20 2009 will be on view at the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin.

Since it was founded as the Pictura Fine Art Fair in 1975, the TEFAF has become one of the most influential international trade fairs for art of all epochs. The offer ranges from antiques to contemporary art. The latter has become more and more important at the fair. At this year’s TEFAF, the 22nd, 239 galleries and antique dealers from 15 countries are exhibiting.
