Without support, learning difficulties will limit a child’s development and future prospects

Literacy is a core skill, not just for employment but for a fulfilling life. Reading difficulties don’t just affect a person’s learning ability, they undermine self-confidence.

Shine provides support in language and reading for children in Grades 2 and 3 (ages 6-8) who need extra help with literacy. We’ve partnered with Shine since 2008.

Working with trained volunteers for an hour twice a week grows their love of books and reading. For most, English is a second or foreign language. It’s important that they master it, as proficiency in English will increase employment opportunities when they leave school.

Shine also provides training workshops to help parents encourage reading at home.
