Deutsche Bank names Yto Barrada "Artist of the Year 2011"

October 2010 │ London

During the Frieze Art Fair in London, Deutsche Bank presented Yto Barrada as the "Artist of the Year" for 2011. After Wangechi Mutu, Barrada is the second whom the bank is honouring with the award.

Yto Barrada’s work reflects the particular situation of her hometown, Tangier, Morocco, at the intersection of Arab, African and European cultures. Barrada’s photographs, films and installations heighten awareness of the shifting cultural, economic and political boundaries and their effects.
Works by Barrada have been shown at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco, at the Venice Biennale in 2007, and at the Jeu de Paume, Paris.
The Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin will show a selection of works by the artist from April 15 to June 19, 2011 in a comprehensive solo exhibition.
