Deutsche employees volunteer for annual soup kitchen

November 30, 2010 │ Jersey

Colleagues from Deutsche Bank were to be found in Jersey’s Royal Square on what was arguably one of the coldest days of the year helping with the annual Soup Kitchen to raise funds for Jersey’s Shelter Trust for the Homeless.

This event, now in its twelfth year, is unlike more traditional soup kitchens in that it doesn't serve free, simple soup to homeless people. This Soup Kitchen features soups from the best chefs in the island including those working at five star hotels, those with Michelin stars and those working for the island’s Governor. A total of 37 varieties of soup, alongside bread rolls were on sale to the public for a minimum donation of £2.50.

The event is supported by local businesses, including for many years Deutsche Bank, to ensure that every penny raised goes directly to the Shelter Trust and is staffed by volunteers amongst them a six-strong team from Deutsche Bank who were kept busy buttering bread, heating the soup and taking and delivering the orders.

Such is the popularity of the event that this year a record amount of £12,500 was raised and many of the soups had sold out before the lunchtime rush was over.

Volunteers from our Dublin office worked very closely with the 'Dublin Simon Community' in 2010. Employees redecorated and refurbished rooms in a homeless shelter. Our London office held a drive for clothing and chocolate before Christmas as well as hosting a number of talks by different homelessness organisations.
