Five Countries Cycle

Five Countries Cycle

18 May │ UK

Last month saw the Five Countries Cycle take place, with the Deutsche Bank team cycling through Europe and raising over £42,000 for one of the Charities of the Year: The Eve Appeal.

16 cyclists took on the immense challenge of cycling over 600km through the UK, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany within only four days. The cyclists set off from Winchester House in London on Wednesday 18 May and rode through countryside, cities and historical checkpoints like Waterloo, to make it to Koln by Saturday. The total ascent rose to 2660m, providing the cyclist with a challenging and difficult terrain.

With sometimes back to back 100 mile days, the teams sometimes felt the strain but kept up their pace and spirits and rode on. They had all sorts of challenges including a bike frame breaking in half to cyclists colliding. All of these issues were overcome and with a bit of luck and detailed planning the cyclist managed to arrive in Koln safely.

Fundraising currently stands at over £42,000 and is still rising. This will go to help fund vital research focused on developing effective methods of prediction, detection, treatment and care that will help save women's lives not only in the UK but throughout the world.
