London students win the Deutsche Bank Young Entrepreneurs final

The Deutsche Bank Young Entrepreneurs competition saw five student companies competing for awards.

Deutsche Bank’s support of the programme is part of the Bank's youth engagement programme, which enables young people from disadvantaged areas and backgrounds to fulfil their potential.

As part of the exciting competition, over 2,000 students aged between 14 and 19 years from schools in London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh have been given expert help to start their own businesses by Deutsche Bank business mentors. The pupils, who started working intensively on their business ideas in September 2012, have spent the past six months creating and nurturing their companies from scratch – doing everything from product development to marketing to holding board meetings and running accounts, all alongside their school work.

Team ‘Cinda Lillies’ from Birmingham had produced organic cupcake candles, which looked good enough to eat. ‘Connect’ from Edinburgh had worked with local businesses to produce a voucher booklet for the area, ‘Triangle’ from London had a range of ethical jewellery, ‘Organeco’ from Glasgow had made organic lip butter and moisturiser and ‘Royal Heart Design’ from Liverpool customised t shirts, mugs and other products.

Deutsche Bank UK Vice President Michael Tang addressed the students: “To have got here is an incredible achievement. We have seen five very good companies with five very good products. Congratulations to all of you and I hope you’ve actually had a good time despite all of this pressure and tension in presentations"

"The entrepreneurial acumen and business skills that these young people have developed is impressive, but they also demonstrated enormous creativity which was inspiring for me. It makes me proud to know that Deutsche Bank is supporting the next generation of business talent from state schools across our geographic footprint".

The winners were as follows:
The Green Award: ‘Cinda Lillies’, Small Heath School, Birmingham
Most Innovative Product: ‘Organeco’, Lourdes Secondary School, Glasgow
Best Marketing Award: ‘Triangle’, Bishopshalt School, London
Best Overall Company: Triangle
The judges were very impressed with the high standards from all five companies, and had to make difficult decisions.

The team from Bishopshalt School were thrilled to win, saying: “This means so much to us. We’ve learned how to work as a team sell and market our product to appeal to our customers.

“Taking part in the Deutsche Bank Young Entrepreneurs programme has really inspired our future plans – we want to go on to study subjects such as Economics and Law.”
