BBC Three to air two-part documentary about Team England at the Street Child World Cup

The first in a two-part documentary will air tonight on BBC Three about Team England, a football squad of nine girls from London sponsored by Deutsche Bank, at the Street Child World Cup.

The documentary followed ‘Team England’ on their ‘Road to Rio’, from training in North London with Arsenal in the Community to the tournament in Rio de Janeiro in April earlier this year. A total of 230 children from 19 countries, who have either lived or worked on the streets, took part in a football tournament and a unique conference highlighting the issues children face on the streets.

The nine girls, aged 14 – 17, have all experienced homelessness or who have had to leave their family home as children. The documentary follows their unique journey to Brazil for the World Cup with a difference.

Team England continue to be sponsored by Deutsche Bank as part of its Born to Be youth engagement programme in partnership with StreetSmart, a charitable organisation that raises funds to tackle homelessness. Both organisations believe that life chances should not be determined by background and together our investment is helping these young girls develop their skills and aspirations to make the most of their talents.

As part of the sponsorship, employees from the Bank’s Women in European Business (WEB) network will support the girls via a mentoring programme to help them make the most of their experience and continue their life paths towards realising their potential.

Part one of the documentary broadcasts at 9pm on Tuesday 10 June with part two following on Wednesday 11 June at the same time.
