Deutsche Bank community partner StreetSmart raises record-breaking total to tackle homelessness

Supporters and benefactors gathered at The Cabinet Office last night to hear StreetSmart announce its latest record-breaking total of £805,000 raised by restaurateurs and hoteliers to fight homelessness across the UK.

Broadcaster and StreetSmart Patron, Richard Bacon praised those who donated: “All the restaurants who take part in StreetSmart are tremendous: the finest joints in town. Well done for eating in one of them. You may not have noticed the £1 on top of your bill. But somebody will.”

In total, over 550 establishments took part including popular dining destinations like Polpo, MEATliquor, Maze, Quo Vadis and OXO Tower and hotel groups including Park Plaza and myhotel.  Famous chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, Giorgio Locattelli, Yotam Ottolenghi and Jason Atherton help out each year. “It’s great to be able to give something back through the joy of cooking.” says Jason “StreetSmart is a charity I support dearly.”

This campaign also saw The Cabinet Office match diner’s donations throughout December. Nick Hurd, Minister for Civil Society says “We have given money to innovative charity appeals like StreetSmart, to support their work helping the vulnerable.”

The funds raised will support over 100 projects in 19 cities aimed at helping homeless people return back to sustainable independent living and into employment as well as support homeless prevention programmes for the young. One such programme is Depaul UK’s Nightstop Provision managed by Rebecca Bickley who says “Thanks to StreetSmart’s support, we’ve been able to develop our vital work. Last year we were able to provide over 100 young people with emergency accommodation across 11 London boroughs.”

StreetSmart’s costs are paid by Deutsche Bank. Commenting on the campaign, Colin Grassie, CEO Deutsche Bank UK and Group Executive Committee member said; “Deutsche Bank has partnered with StreetSmart since 2006 to ensure that every penny donated by the public goes straight to supporting the homeless.  It is fantastic to see the campaign go from strength to strength with this year's record-breaking total.”
