Reach Higher: Success for Battersea Park School

Battersea Park School in London has recently been awarded “good” status by OFSTED following a three-year partnership with the Bank.

Deutsche Bank has been working with the school since 2007, when it launched the Reach Higher programme in partnership with charity Outward Bound, an educational charity that uses outdoor experiences and challenges to help and develop young people.

The OFSTED report noted Deutsche Bank and Outward Bound's project and credited the school as having used the partnership “exceptionally well” to broaden the horizons and raise the aspirations of the students.

The partnership, which will last until 2010, aims to demonstrate the impact that outdoor education and leadership development opportunities can have on the students of an inner city secondary school. The courses develop key skills and the aspirations of students within Battersea Park School.

In addition to the Outward Bound Personal Development courses, Deutsche Bank is putting the force of its resources behind the school through visits to the Bank and employee e-mentors sessions. David Fass, Head of Corporate Finance Europe, is also acting as a mentor to the headteacher of the school.
