Deutsche Bank Brazil celebrates its commitment to CSR

September 29, 2011 │ Brazil

Each year in Deutsche Bank’s Brazil office, a committee of employees selects two non-profit organizations to receive volunteer assistance.

Two corporate volunteering days are arranged on a Saturday for employees and their families with the chosen non-profits.

After reviewing 17 non-profit nominations put forth by the employees, Lar Amor, Luz e Esperança da Criança (LALEC) and Sociedade Benfeitora do Jaguaré (Jaguaré) were chosen as 2011 beneficiaries.  On August 20, 2011, over 60 employees volunteered with LALEC and on September 3, 2011 over 70 employees spent their time with Jaguaré.

For twelve years, LALEC has been caring for young, at-risk children up to the age of three while they wait for the judicial system to decide whether they will return to their birth families or be placed in an adoption program. At LALEC, volunteers organized bazaar items to be sold, sanded the walls of the buildings interior and played with the children.

Sociedade Benfeitora do Jaguaré, founded in 1957, cares for more than 1500 youth in the poor industrial district of São Paulo, offering education activities during times when school is not in session. The diverse range of activities available includes arts and sports for children and professional courses for teenagers and young adults. The organization strives to improve living conditions for the participants, as well as their chances for a better future. At Jaguaré, Deutsche Bank volunteers painted, gardened and participated in recreational activities with the children.

Corporate volunteering is one among various CSR activities in Brazil. Activities range from art exhibitions, such as the recently opened Beuys and Beyond exhibit, to arranging grants for organizations working to reduce illiteracy in the country. In 2011, almost 185 Deutsche Bank Brazil volunteers participated in a corporate volunteering activity.
