Japan Earthquake Disaster Relief

March 15, 2011 │ Japan

Deutsche Bank has activated its Matching Gifts Program in response to the recent disaster in Japan.

On Friday, March 11, an 8.9-magnitude earthquake struck the coast of Japan resulting in a devastating tsunami. As of Tuesday, March 15,  various reports from police officials and news agencies said that as many as 2,700 people have perished in the disaster, and another 400,000 have reportedly been left homeless and are staying in shelters and evacuation centers.

Deutsche Bank was deeply saddened to hear of this tragedy, and all members of the Deutsche Bank community send their condolences to those affected. Deutsche Bank has a long-standing tradition of supporting humanitarian relief efforts across the entire Bank.  The Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation has activated its Disaster Relief Matching Gifts Program to increase the impact of employee donations made in response to the crisis. Through this campaign, both personal employee donations and company matching gifts are delivered in an expedited manner to Save the Children, an independent organization that aids disaster-stricken regions with food, medical care, and education, and remains to help communities rebuild through long-term recovery programs. Currently, Save the Children is setting up child-friendly spaces in affected areas of Japan, where children can safely play with one another while freeing up their parents to work on the recovery.
