Revitalizing a primary school in Mexico City

A group of 62 Deutsche Bank volunteers, along with their families and friends, participated in painting, cleaning and gardening projects at the school, Rosa Mexicano. The service day was organized with the nonprofit organization ProEd.

Luis Estrada from Global Markets said of the event, “I believe that social responsibility is an important lesson to teach your kids. This project with ProEd was a great way for Deutsche Bank families to participate. It was a significant project, but the organizers from ProEd and Deutsche Bank broke it down into fun activities.”

A separate group of volunteers from the Bank’s Group Technology & Operations (GTO) team performed a diagnosis of the school’s technology needs and improved the conditions of the computer rooms and systems. Mónica Hernández, a member of GTO, said, “I loved being able to apply my professional skills to make a difference. We could have delivered a big technical improvement, but I think our diagnosis and requirements identification will ultimately be more helpful, as we were transferring skills, instead of doing the work for them.”

DBAF has supported ProEd for the past four years, aiding the organization in its goal of improving public primary education in Mexico. ProEd works to create educationally integrated communities where leaders, teachers, students and parents actively participate in creating the highest quality educational system. The organization stresses educational innovation and open communication between all community members, as well as continuous evaluation and improvement of its programs.

Jorge Arce, Chief Country Officer for Deutsche Bank Mexico said, “I am impressed by ProEd’s achievements over these four years in more than 100 schools, where more than 90% of students, teachers and parents say they have acquired new knowledge and new ways of improving children’s learning. I am also truly inspired by the dedication and determination of Mexico City employees to give back to underserved communities. They are an example of teamwork, resourcefulness and a culture of performance and responsibility.”
