Painting a brighter future for public school students

October 2015 │ New York

Deutsche Bank volunteers revitalized a public high school in Brooklyn as part of the annual New York Cares Day Fall service event.

A passionate group of employees, joined by family and friends, came together to beautify Brooklyn High School of the Arts. The volunteers worked in teams to tackle a range of projects throughout the school’s building and grounds. They painted classrooms, organized supply rooms and planted daffodil and tulip bulbs in the school’s garden. They also painted a new mural for the school.

“The volunteers had such great energy and made a huge difference in the environment of the school,” said Melanie Kaufmann of the Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation, who served as site captain. “The faculty members were so appreciative and said the students ‘oohed and ahhed’ over all the changes.”

The activity was organized by New York Cares, a longtime Deutsche Bank partner. For this year's New York Cares Day Fall, 4,000 volunteers were engaged in revitalization projects at 68 public schools throughout the city. Through service days and other programs, New York Cares mobilizes caring New Yorkers in service activities that reach 400,000 New York City residents every year.
