DBAF announces new initiative to advance racial justice

Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation issued the following statement to employees in October 2017.

Deutsche Bank’s commitment to a just society compels us to take a stand when hate, bigotry and discrimination violate our core values of integrity, partnership, diversity and inclusion. Following the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, VA, this August, the Foundation has committed to funding nonprofit organizations working to confront racial injustice.

Racial equity has always been central to Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation’s work. Through our philanthropic pillars of community development, education and social and creative enterprise, we address disparities whose root causes can be traced to institutional, structural and systemic racism. The Foundation, in connection with Deutsche Bank’s Diversity & Inclusion efforts, is committed to advancing racial justice more directly and intentionally than we have before.

This set of grants will support a range of projects, including but not limited to anti-bias training; the development of new curricula online, in cultural institutions and in schools; and a body of work focused on culturally responsive education. Funding will also support organizations working to remedy the history of public policies that have stymied wealth-building among households of color. As part of this prioritized commitment to racial justice, the Foundation, in partnership with Diversity & Inclusion will hold a Thought Leaders Forum for employees, and consider other ways to engage employees in this urgent and important work.
