Legal, Risk & Capital
Who we are
Legal, Risk & Capital strives to enhance shareholder value and protect Deutsche Bank's capital, integrity and reputation by providing our business partners with innovative solutions.
What we do
How we are organized
The major risks that Deutsche Bank faces are managed by the following divisions within LRC:
Chief Operating Office
The Chief Operating Office is responsible for the control and management of all credit data across LRC. Its remit also includes the management of headcount, costs and allocations across the division. Furthermore, it manages all divisional outsourcing projects and provides the operational support functions within LRC such as communications, management reporting, and training.
Compliance
Failure to comply with regulations can cost a bank its business. That is why Compliance's work of identifying and managing regulatory risks is so critical. Compliance advances lawful and ethical business conduct and prevents and detects violations of law, helping to protect and maintain Deutsche Bank's integrity and reputation as a leading provider of financial solutions.
Corporate Security & Business Continuity
Corporate Security & Business Continuity (CSBC) is committed to ensuring the continuity of critical Deutsche Bank businesses and functions and provides rigorous assessment of the global security situation and business-specific risks. CSBC aims to protect Deutsche Bank's people, infrastructure, processes and information.
Credit Risk Management
Credit Risk Management (CRM) is the independent credit approval and monitoring function for the whole of Deutsche Bank. CRM represents the Bank's centre of competence for all counterparty risk-related matters. The division uses its expert knowledge from around the globe to maximize Deutsche Bank's risk-adjusted rate of return. It provides structuring advice and credit approval on transactions, manages the credit exposure of the Bank's derivative and foreign exchange portfolios, actively ensures the recovery of impaired loans, and makes sure that the global risk and management reporting systems are timely and accurate.
Legal
Legal aims to facilitate viable and safe transactions, by giving proactive, business-oriented, and creative advice, to help protect the integrity and reputation of Deutsche Bank. Legal advises on strategic and policy matters of a legal and regulatory nature. It also informs on relevant developments in the law and offers legal education. Legal's main tasks include drafting agreements and other deal documentation, negotiating contract terms, advising on business transactions and strategy, and handling litigation and regulatory investigations.
Operational Risk Management and Risk Analytics & Instruments
Operational Risk Management (ORM) and Risk Analytics & Instruments (RAI) develops and maintains key risk measurement and management methods for the Bank. Threats as diverse as product liabilities, information security, IT system failure, frauds, and even natural disasters come under the remit of ORM. The ORM team raises awareness of these threats, performs value adding analyses, and sets and monitors operational risk loss and capital targets used within Deutsche Bank. Similarly, the RAI team covers a broad range of complex and challenging topics, such as rating and scoring methodologies, automated decision making tools, calibration and validation of risk parameters, derivatives exposure, and portfolio modelling and its applications, such as pricing, profitability measures, stress testing and portfolio optimization. RAI's activities cover all risk types material to Deutsche Bank. The implementation of Basel II capital adequacy to ensure overall regulatory compliance for Deutsche Bank's risk management methods is another key task.
Market Risk Management
Market Risk Management (MRM) analyses and aggregates market risk to ensure Deutsche Bank optimizes its risk-reward relationship and is not exposed to unacceptable losses. MRM has a strong focus on the activity on the dealing floors and works closely with, and on behalf of, traders and senior managers to perform the complex risk analyses that are crucial to inform their business decisions. The activities of the department are not directed purely at the risk side of the equation, but rather at risk, reward and capital. Thus, the focus is not on restricting people from taking risk, but encouraging risk to be taken where it is most optimal, given the rewards and capital consumption.
Treasury
Treasury manages the capital, funding, and liquidity risk of the Deutsche Bank group of companies. Treasury manages these resources with a view towards shareholder and bondholder value, as well as regulatory requirements and other external influences. In each of the specific functions, Treasury is involved in large, complex, global activities, which often are state-of-the-art in the financial services industry.
