Two-track vocational training
The vocational training system in Germany is quite special internationally speaking. It is characterized by the cooperation between private firms and publicly-run vocational schools. In order to qualify apprentices for their chosen occupation (and their final examination) both partners within this two-track system have certain tasks to fulfill. In practice this means, that the private firms are obliged to organize training on the job - phases and in-company instructions which enable the apprentices to learn all tasks necessary for their occupation, while the vocational schools impart theoretical background knowledge. Here are some figures to illustrate the significance of vocational training in Germany
- About 60% of the school leavers in Germany pass trough the two-track vocational system
- About 550.000 young people start a vocational training every year - about 13.000 of them in the banking system
- Bank Business Management Assistant is one of the most popular training occupation for young people with university-entrance qualification in Germany
- Almost 40.000 apprentices are actually trained within the German banking system
