Berliner Philharmoniker complete successful Asian tour

November 28, 2011 │ Asia

The admiration for the Berliner Philharmoniker in Asia is impressive. The world-famous orchestra, a partner of Deutsche Bank, with its chief conductor Sir Simon Rattle were received by enthusiastic audiences on its tour of Asia this year. In its luggage, the orchestra had Mahler’s and Bruckner’s Ninth Symphonies, coupled with pieces such as Ravel’s “Spanish Dance” and Hosokawa’s concerto for horn and orchestra “Moment of Blossoming.”

The tour began in Beijing. In that city, music enthusiasts could not only attend a concert given by the Berlin Philharmonic but could also attend a rehearsal. Deutsche Bank employees and their families took advantage of this opportunity. Subsequently, the orchestra performed in Shanghai, Seoul and Taipeh. Its first concert in Taipeh was broadcast live from the Digital Concert Hall . Additionally, the concert was shown in four public areas across the country. In Taiwan alone, a total of 70,000 people saw the Berliner Philharmoniker concert, in the National Concert Hall or on large screens.

The last stop was Tokyo. As in Shanghai, the orchestra performed its task as a UNICEF ambassador. Sir Simon Rattle and his musicians welcomed 200 children at a rehearsal, and the Berliner Philharmoniker Wind Quintet played for 600 children from the disaster-affected Sendai region.
