Taking on practical & hands-on volunteering projects has been a longstanding tradition for Deutsche Bank staff. Around the world, groups of 10 to 100 employees have stepped up for ‘social days’ where they take on tasks that help improve the infrastructure in local communities.
These community challenges or social days typically extend over one or two days, and the results of their contributions are almost immediate – a fact that’s deeply gratifying for the volunteers, as well for as the communities they seek to help.
More than 30 Deutsche Bank volunteers, together with family members and friends, took time off in March 2009 to clean up the Xiangshuihu Great Wall, which was built in the Ming Dynasty and is located in the valley north of Beijing. This program was Beijing office's response to Deutsche Bank Green Week - where regional offices support 'green' projects initiated by selected environmental organisations.

The team of 39 volunteers set out on a Saturday morning - with the mission to rid litter and trash of the Xiangshuihu Section of the Great Wall. Despite it being a long and tiring day, the volunteers were glad to be part of this 'green' initiative to help make the environment a greener and fresher place for the next generation.
Over 20 Deutsche Bank volunteers and their family members participated in a tree planting session along the river bank of Bei Pu, Hsin Chu County. Together with the villagers of the Hsin Chu County - located in the northwestern part of Taiwan, Deutsche Bank volunteers planted over one hundred Cosmos trees along the riverside. The volunteers found the experience rewarding and were pleased to be supporting Deutsche Bank's broader sustainability program in the region.
The tree planting session, initiated by the Forestry Bureau, Council of Agriculture Executive Yuan, underscores the organization's commitment to help address the threat of climate change and negative environmental effects of energy-intensive lifestyles.
