The Deutsche Bank Awards have been supporting talented and creative graduates from some of the leading art institutions in the UK for the past 18 years, with over 100 awards made over the life of the programme. Colin Grassie, Chief Executive Officer, Deutsche Bank UK, said, “The Deutsche Bank Awards help fledgling businesses enter the creative economy of the UK. Innovation and entrepreneurship are essential to help our economy towards recovery and will give the UK a competitive edge on a global scale. Deutsche Bank is delighted to be working with some of the world's most respected arts institutions, such as the Royal College of Art, LAMDA and the Glasgow School of Art, to give their graduating students a financial boost and more importantly business expertise from senior bank employees to see their business plans realised."
The ceremony was accompanied by a private view of Deutsche Bank's first exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery. The exhibition “Borders”, is being hosted in the Phillips de Pury & Company Gallery between 26 June - 11 July and shows the work of four previous Deutsche Bank Award winners. The artists exhibiting are Carla Busuttil, Royal Academy of Arts 2008, Diana Matar Royal College of Art 2008, Tom Saunderson, University of the Arts London 2007 and Anastasia Taylor-Lind, University of the Arts 2009.
In 2010, the Deutsche Bank Middle East Foundation took the decision to implement the Deutsche Bank Awards scheme in the Middle East region – it is the first time that the Awards have been offered outside of the British Isles. For that purpose the Foundation partnered with the Bader Young entrepreneurs program, a Lebanese organization focused on supporting young entrepreneurs and promoting small businesses. Two awards of €10,000 each will be offered as a first step with the aim of exploring additional partnerships to support creative talent across the Middle East region. The award is open to artists, craftspeople, designers and performers with the aim of starting their own business.
