The Digital Concert Hall – a new music experience celebrates its first birthday

From the very beginning the Berliner Philharmoniker have contributed to the future of music, exploring new repertoire as well as advances in sound recording.

January 2009 was the beginning of a new era in concert broadcasting at the Berlin Philharmonie. High-definition cameras record all the concerts by the Berliner Philharmoniker and put them out on a new web platform: the Digital Concert Hall. Here you can find the world-famous orchestra and its musical partners – Artistic Director Sir Simon Rattle as well as renowned guest conductors and soloists.

The Financial Times recently called the Digital Concert Hall, “classical music's most advanced response to the digital revolution”. The unique project was made possible by Deutsche Bank.

Since its launch, nearly 50 performances of the Berliner Philharmoniker have been transmitted online around the world and in high definition quality. In August 2009, more than 4,000 music fans were able to view live and for free the orchestra's season opening concert via Deutsche Bank's website.

On January 5, 2010, the Berliner Philharmoniker received yet further recognition for the Digital Concert Hall when it was named as one of Germany's “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas”.

As the exclusive partner of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Deutsche Bank has been supporting the orchestra since 1989, making projects like Zukunft@BPhil possible. This award-winning educational programme encourages young people to go beyond their personal limits and expand their horizons.
