Building social capital
Deutsche Bank regards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as an investment in society and in its own future. Our goal as a responsible corporate citizen is to create social capital. We leverage our core competencies in five areas of activity.
With our involvement in art, we foster creativity. With our educational activities, we enable talent. With our social investments, we create opportunities. With our commitment to sustainability, we ensure long-term viability. And with our corporate volunteering, we commit ourselves personally.

Social Responsibility in South Africa
The Deutsche Bank Africa Foundation (DBAF) is committed to uplifting and proactively supporting individuals and communities to enable them to build a better and more sustainable future.
The DBAF was founded in 2002 and is supported by an endowment established by Deutsche Bank in Germany and profits from the local Deutsche Bank franchise in South Africa.
The DBAF aims to focus on adolescents, vulnerable children and education. It has specific intervention programs and partners with key players in these fields to give direct and practical assistance to overcome the obstacles caused by poverty.
ENSURING VIABILITY – Sustainability
Sustainable Development in South Africa
The DBAF supports initiatives that preserve the environment in practical and sustainable ways, which also helps to create jobs. It is also involved in greening and permaculture initiatives mainly in schools and impoverished communities.
COMMITTING OURSELVES – Corporate Volunteering
Corporate Staff Involvement
The foundation has a number of initiatives that motivate staff to offer not only financial assistance to community projects, but also their own initiative and personal involvement. The community staff challenge has made it possible for staff to directly support a number of projects with assistance from the foundation. Focus areas have been crime prevention, youth leadership, greening, and education assistance.
CREATING OPPORTUNITY – Social Investments
Community Development
The DBAF has supported and continues to assist communities in managing the growing number of orphans and vulnerable children largely as a consequence of the HIV-AIDS pandemic in South Africa. The foundation partners with Nurturing Orphans of Aids for Humanity (NOAH) to provide services which enable volunteers and community representatives to attend to the wellbeing of these children.
ENABLING TALENT – Education
Education
The DBAF has a number of key projects focusing on school adoption and the advancement of basic education at a secondary school level. It also follows this up with scholarships for deserving learners to further their education and find employment. In addition, the foundation actively supports education in art and music.
