Deutsche Bank (Malaysia) Berhad partners with Teach For Malaysia to advance education equity

The collaboration will help students in Malaysia get access to quality education

Deutsche Bank will partner with Teach For Malaysia (TFM) to support its Fellowship programme starting January 2026.  The Teach For Malaysia Fellowship is a two-year leadership development programme that places promising graduates and young professionals in schools to teach and lead change.

Through this partnership, Deutsche Bank will support three concurrent Fellowship cohorts (2024, 2025, and 2026).

The key impacts of the partnership with Teach For Malaysia include:

  • Supporting 62 Fellows on their two-year journey as teachers and leaders.
  • Positively impacting over 6,200 students in underserved communities across Malaysia.
  • Strengthening educational outcomes where access to quality education is most critical.

Empowering changemakers and inspiring students

As participants in the programme, Fellows work closely with students, educators, and local communities to improve learning outcomes and bridge education inequity. By supporting this programme, Deutsche Bank will help strengthen educational outcomes and inspire a new generation of changemakers within Malaysia’s education landscape.

Over the years, as part of its CSR programme in Malaysia, Deutsche Bank has worked alongside local partners and NGOs to support the country’s communities. These include:

Global Peace Foundation Malaysia

The Global Peace Foundation Malaysia is a Malaysian non-profit dedicated to empowering underserved and indigenous communities, notably the Orang Asli.

Building a better future for Orang Asli youth (2026)

Deutsche Bank is supporting the Global Peace Foundation Malaysia in empowering and nurturing Orang Asli youth through apprenticeships, workshops, and career and educational exposure trips to develop leadership abilities and other essential life skills. High-potential Orang Asli youth will also receive university scholarships funded by the bank. This initiative aims to address low tertiary enrollment caused by limited exposure, economic and social challenges, and to close the leadership gap that has left Orang Asli voices underrepresented..

Empowering local communities through regenerative agriculture (2024-2026)

Global Peace Foundation Malaysia supports Orang Asli communities facing poverty and food insecurity by promoting regenerative agriculture. With Deutsche Bank’s support, these communities are empowered and equipped with farming skills, tools, seedlings, mentorship, and marketing assistance to enhance food production, restore soil health, and increase climate resilience. Born to Be youth empowerment for underserved and marginalised communities (2018 – 2021)

In partnership with Global Peace Foundation Malaysia, Deutsche Bank supported the development of Orang Asli children aged 5 to 17 by building their self-esteem, resilience, and social skills through sports, arts, crafts, and life skills activities.

The programme contributed to better school engagement and improved academic confidence by addressing factors such as economic hardship and low self-esteem.

Communities Unite for Purewater (2017 – 2018)

Through the CUP project, Deutsche Bank enabled remote Orang Asli communities to gain reliable access to clean drinking water. A gravity-fed water system with filtration was installed, alongside the introduction of sustainable water practices.

These improvements strengthened daily wellbeing, reduced water-borne health risks, and enhanced long-term community resilience.

Nur Zaharah Welfare Home (BANZ)

Nur Zaharah Welfare Home provides shelter, education, and essential support to children from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those from broken homes, abusive environments, and low-income families. As a charity partner of Deutsche Bank since 2007, the organisation has benefited from various volunteering efforts, such as furnishing the Activities block, painting walls and murals, building fences, sound-proofing rooms, and landscaping - all aimed at creating a safer and more nurturing environment for the children.

Bank Negara adopt-a-school programme - Nan Kai School (2016 – 2019 and 2023 – 2024)

Deutsche Bank Malaysia supported Nan Kai School under Bank Negara Malaysia’s adopt-a-school initiative by providing financial literacy workshops through MoneyTree and contributing funds for essential school needs like lab equipment.

Taman Tugu Tree adoption programme (2022)

The Taman Tugu Tree Adoption Programme, led by Khazanah Nasional Berhad under Amanah Warisan Negara (AWAN), is a not-for-profit CSR initiative focused on preserving public and heritage spaces in Malaysia.

Deutsche Bank Malaysia celebrated its 55th anniversary by adopting a plot at Taman Tugu Park and planting indigenous trees.

Born to Be Study Award (2017 – 2019)

The Deutsche Bank Born to Be Study Award provided financial support to high-achieving undergraduates at the University of Malaya who faced economic difficulties, helping them continue their studies and make a positive impact.

LifeSkills4Youth programme (2015 – 2017)

Deutsche Bank supported The LifeSkills4Youth programme run by Soroptimist International Club of Damansara (SID). The programme focused on empowering underprivileged and disengaged youth - including school dropouts and the unemployed - by providing work readiness and skills training. The initiative aimed to equip participants with practical tools for employment and promote long-term self-sufficiency in local communities.
