Sylvie Matherat appointed Global Head of Government & Regulatory Affairs

Deutsche Bank announced today that Sylvie Matherat, age 52, will join as Global Head of Government & Regulatory Affairs effective 1 August. In this role, she will lead an expanded Government & Regulatory Affairs function with responsibility for regulatory adherence and implementation, regulatory relationship management, and regulatory advocacy.

Matherat will also become a member of the Group Executive Committee (GEC). The GEC performs advisory, coordinating, performance-monitoring and decision-preparing functions for the Management Board.

Matherat will join from Banque de France, the French central bank, where her most recent positions were Deputy Director General of Operations and Director for Financial Stability. She will be based in Frankfurt and report to Stephan Leithner, Member of the Management Board, whose functional responsibilities include Government & Regulatory Affairs.

Matherat joined Banque de France in 1986. From 1986 to 1993 and from 1995 to 2007, she held various senior positions at the Commission Bancaire (now Autorité de Controle Prudentiel et de Régulation), including Director for Policy and International Relations, and Head of the Banking Survey Division. She became Director for Financial Stability in 2007 and Deputy Director General of Operations in 2011.

Matherat was Banque de France’s representative on the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and Co-Chair of its liquidity group. She was also a member of the Committee on Payment and Settlement System (CPSS), a member of the Crisis Management and Resolution Steering Group of the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and a member of the Payment and Settlement System Committee of the European Central Bank (ECB). From 1993 to 1995, Matherat worked for Paribas Capital Markets as Head of the Structured Finance Department and from 1985 to 1986 for Société Générale as Auditor on Retail and Investment Banking.
