Why Europe Matters to us

With more than 60,000 employees in 18 European countries, we offer our corporate and private clients comprehensive and integrated financial services and products. But for us, Europe is more than the second largest single market in the world – Europe is our base. We stand by the values that make up the modern European constitution. Only through diversity, pluralism, democracy and a social market economy can there be lasting and sustainable growth for the benefit of all.

#MyEurope: this is Europe to me.

In the run up to the European elections, we asked our colleagues what Europe means to them. The response was fascinating. The diverse mix of cultures, traditions, history and landscapes makes Europe a melting pot of ideas and experiences.

Malte Kilian from Brussels, Belgium

To me this image represents Europe because the bright and colourful message that stands out against the surrounding grey office buildings is such a clear statement of the vision and mission behind Europe.

Esin Ataman from Singapore

For me, this photo symbolises Europe because it says ‘heritage’ to me. Europe is home to some of the greatest cultural treasures in the world and I believe everyone should try to experience this in their lifetime. This picture was taken in Prague.

Jenny Voigtländer from Frankfurt, Germany

People from around the world have made Europe their home. For me, Europe is a place rich in cultures from all continents.

Marianne Stecker from Zurich, Switzerland

For me, this picture of the winding road of St. Gotthard Alpine pass symbolises Europe. This mountain road is a historic masterpiece of construction work in Europe, built in 1830, that not only connects Switzerland with Italy but also Northern and Southern Europe. To me, the road also symbolises the fact that it’s not always a straight road that leads to a solution – sometimes it’s a winding one

Razvan Calin from Bucharest, Romania

I took this photo in London. To me it symbolises Europe because of the perfect blend between modern and classic architecture

Ratnajit Saha from Geneva Switzerland

I took this photo in Nice this year. It showcases the lively and vibrant coastal life in Nyon. The rich colours of the houses and the harmony with nature produces a mesmerising marvel that is so typically Europe to me.

Vaibhav-A Agarawal from Mumbai, India

For me, this picture perfectly captures the most picturesque sight I saw while backpacking across Europe last year – it left me spellbound. It is true that some places stay with you forever, even years after you have left. Bruges, for me, is definitely one such happy place that I found!

Axel Baumgart from Frankfurt, Germany

This picture perfectly symbolises Europe to me because it shows French food, Spanish wine, a Romanian dog, a German lady, and a Swiss and a French knife. It was taken during a holiday on the French coast in Brittany.

Desiree Windfuhr from Frankfurt, Germany

I love Europe because of its rich diversity in culture and architecture. This photo was taken in Colmar, Alsace where the frame houses are a typical part of the architectural landscape.
