Berliner Philharmoniker: Thousands of fans around the world to watch season opening concert live on the Internet

The season opening concert of the Berliner Philharmoniker on Friday (August 26, 2011) evening will be watched live online by more people than ever before. To date, 8,500 people from around the world have registered via the Deutsche Bank website alone to experience this renowned orchestra’s first concert of the 2011/2012 season in the “Digital Concert Hall” (DCH). This is an increase of 21 percent on last year. More than half of the fans are registered outside of Germany. Added to this are the 7,000 regular subscribers across the globe who have permanent access to the DCH.

At this year’s season opening concert, the Berliner Philharmoniker is performing Gustav Mahler’s Seventh Symphony under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle. The “real” concert hall in Berlin, with its capacity of over 2,400 seats, has already been sold out for months.

The DCH is the online virtual concert hall of the Berliner Philharmoniker. This unique project is made possible by Deutsche Bank and allows music fans from all corners of the globe to watch the Berliner Philharmoniker’s concerts live with brilliant sound and picture quality. To date, 61,000 people have seen a concert or other work in the Digital Concert Hall.

This year, the number of tickets available via the Deutsche Bank homepage was initially limited to 4,000, but has since been extended to 10,000 due to the high demand.
