Deutsche Bank recently concluded its AI Summit 2026 to support the use of artificial intelligence in bringing tangible impact for clients and the organisation. The summit encouraged employees to fundamentally change the way they think about how they create value for clients.
The day-long event, which followed the sun from Asia Pacific to the Americas, was organised by the bank’s Technology Data and Innovation team and attended by more than 6,000 employees from across the bank with more than 60 internal and external speakers.
From technology ambition to real-world impact
A Global Leadership Panel explored what successful AI transformation truly requires.
Kareem Ayoub from DeepMind’s AI Technical Strategy team highlighted that delaying AI adoption represents a significant strategic risk. As barriers to entry fall, organisations that hesitate risk losing momentum to faster‑moving competitors. He stressed the importance of designing AI tools for entirely new outcomes rather than simply optimising existing processes.
To enable this, he said that leaders should ensure data and infrastructure readiness, focus on business outcomes and embed governance from the very beginning.
Why culture matters more than code
Bernd Leukert, Chief Technology, Data and Innovation Officer, echoed this, stating that the main challenge in AI adoption is cultural. He stressed that while the technology is ready, success depends on a new mindset and a willingness to reinvent processes.
Leukert noted that Deutsche Bank has strong foundations for scaling AI securely, including its Google partnership and a unified AI platform. For the bank, governance is a strategic enabler of impact, not a brake, he added.
Building AI fluency across the organisation
The discussion made clear that building capability does not mean turning every employee into a technical specialist. Instead, it is about enabling people across the organisation to understand where AI creates value, how to use it responsibly and how to critically assess AI‑generated output.
To support this, Deutsche Bank employees are offered a large pool of training options to build confidence and expertise with AI.
