Deutsche Bank’s Global Hackathon marks 10 years of turning ideas into action

More than 4,000 Deutsche Bank employees from around the world are coming together today across 21 locations to explore how AI can help solve practical challenges across the bank. Over the next 24 hours, teams will test ideas, build prototypes and share new approaches to everyday business problems.

Over the past decade more than 15,000 colleagues have participated, reflecting the hackathon's role in helping employees explore new technologies and work with colleagues from across the organisation.

From ideas to working prototypes

Over the course of 24 hours, teams develop working prototypes, early versions of tools or applications that demonstrate how an idea could work in practice.

This year, participants will focus on practical AI use cases, using a range of AI tools to explore how technology can simplify processes, improve efficiency and help employees work more effectively. The goal is not only to build something new, but also to demonstrate how AI can be used safely, responsibly and in ways that deliver meaningful business benefits.

The challenges are organised around three areas: improving employee productivity, simplifying processes and workflows, and making it easier to find, understand and use information across the organisation.

Working in multidisciplinary teams, participants test ideas, experiment with new technologies and present their solutions to a panel of judges at the end of the event, competing for the Hack I.T. Trophy.

While the event includes an element of competition, it is equally focused on learning. Technical experts are available throughout the hackathon to answer questions, explain complex concepts and help teams make effective use of AI tools. For many participants, it is an opportunity to collaborate with and learn from colleagues from different backgrounds while gaining hands-on experience with emerging technologies.

Building confidence with AI

The theme reflects the bank’s broader ambition to help employees build practical experience with AI and explore how it can support their work. Ten years on, the Global Hackathon continues to turn curiosity and creativity into practical solutions.
