Award recognizes milestone in the Private Bank’s digital transformation
Christian Rhino received the “Cloud Business Excellence” special award at the “CIO of the Year” competition for the “Digital Upgrade” project. The award recognizes the entire team’s contribution to this important milestone in the Private Bank’s digital transformation.
Since 2003, CIO magazine has recognized outstanding technology projects and strategies across the German-speaking region. This year, Christian Rhino, CIO of the Private Bank, received the “Cloud Business Excellence” special award for the “Digital Upgrade” project. He accepted the award on behalf of the entire team at the ceremony in Munich.
The award recognizes an important milestone in the Private Bank’s strategic transformation towards more efficient banking with a consistent focus on clients. As part of this transformation, the bank is consolidating its technology landscape, which has evolved over many years, on modern, cloud-based platforms. This reduces complexity, accelerates innovation and provides the foundation for using emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence in new products and services.
With “Digital Upgrade”, the bank has introduced a unified online and mobile banking platform based on Google Cloud Platform for its Deutsche Bank, Postbank and Norisbank brands in Germany. Around 19 million clients now benefit from a shared, modern and high-performing technology foundation. The phased rollout was successfully completed in August 2025.
“This award belongs to the entire team. Colleagues from the Private Bank, Technology and Infrastructure worked together to create a modern digital foundation through Digital Upgrade. That is something we can all be proud of. The new platform also gives us many opportunities to make banking even better for our clients,” says Christian Rhino.
