PSD2-Testers wanted: Deutsche Bank testing phase underway since January
- Test environment for payment initiation, account information and funds check services
- Deadline for implementation September 14
Deutsche Bank is currently implementing the revised EU Payment Services Directive (PSD2) and is making swifter progress than anticipated. Since January, payment providers have had access to a comprehensive test environment for all three PSD2 interfaces – Payment Initiation Service (PIS), Account Information Service (AIS) and Payment Instrument Issuing Service (PIIS).
“We will be able to provide access to bank data much earlier than September 14. This will, however, require technically stable data transfer via the PSD2 Application Programming Interface (API). We are now inviting as many third-party providers and other banks as possible to participate in our testing phase,” says Stephan Welker, who is responsible for the technical implementation of PSD2 at Deutsche Bank.
“Deutsche Bank’s developer portal contains comprehensive information on PSD2 and our own API offering which is already available to third-party providers independently of PSD2,” says Joris Hensen, co-lead of the Deutsche Bank API Program. “All requests to access account information, as required by PSD2, can also be performed via the dbAPI. In addition, we offer information that is not covered by PSD2 – notably securities accounts, but also special data requests such as verification of age or income.”
Once they have a test eIDAS certificate, payment providers and banks can register to participate in the PSD2 test phase at: firstname.lastname@example.org. And presuming they have embarked on the approval process with the national banking regulation authorities, a certificate can be ordered from a trust service provider; in Germany, for example, from the Federal Printing Office (Bundesdruckerei), which provides test certificates especially for payment service providers. Applications can be sent to PSD2@bdr.de.

About Deutsche Bank’s Developer Portal
The Developer Portal is the first port of call for Deutsche Bank’s Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). As well as the PSD2 solution, other interfaces are available via the Deutsche Bank API (dbAPI). As well as accessing bank account information, third-party providers can also use the dbAPI for information on credit cards, securities accounts or for documents proving age or income. Accessing the dbAPI enables third-party providers to develop new personalised apps or improve and extend existing applications. Thereby, the bank can then include external partners and quickly and securely expand the range of digital products and services it offers clients. The verification process for businesses – from start-ups to established brand names – takes about two weeks, after which dbAPI gives access to individual client data.
