Simplifying merchant solutions in India with UPI
Deutsche Bank optimises connection with India’s Unified Payments Interface to speed up and streamline payments
Merchants in India can now process more seamless UPI payments with the reliability of a global bank and the agility of real-time technology.
Deutsche Bank has optimised its connectivity with India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), using its latest direct payment rails which offer high transaction speed and a scalable platform. The payment rails are designed to serve large merchants and Payment Service Providers (PSPs).
The bank can now offer these clients in India direct UPI collection services (enabling them to receive payments from customers), helping streamline payment acceptance, achieve higher collection efficiency, gain real-time visibility into transactions, and simplify reconciliation - while meeting local compliance requirements.
Why UPI integration matters for merchants in India
Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India, UPI is a real-time payment system that allows users to transfer money in real time between bank accounts using smartphone applications. UPI simplifies business to consumer, business to business and peer to peer payments in India.
Launching UPI collection services will help the bank to maximise the significant opportunity in the digital payment sector in India. More than 350 million people in India use UPI, which handled 172 billion transactions worth 2.88 trillion US dollars last year, making it the dominant digital payment method in the country.1
UPI is currently recognised by seven other countries globally including Singapore, France and the United Arab Emirates, with several others expected to follow suit this year.
How does Deutsche Bank’s integrated solution work?
Benefits
This new capability delivers faster and more reliable payment processing to merchant solutions clients in India. With direct connectivity, Deutsche Bank is able to reduce the transaction hops (as compared to the PSP driven acceptance flow which is popular in the industry) resulting in significantly higher success rates. It also provides them with online access to real-time insights into collections, transaction statuses and customer behaviour.
“We see significant potential to continue to grow our merchant solutions business in India, While still early days, we are seeing significant interest from our corporate clients and PSPs on this offering with the objective of improving the overall customer experience. ” said Oliver von Quadt, Deutsche Bank’s Global Head of Merchant Solutions - Acceptance.
"We are delighted to optimise our connection with this important and expanding payment system to offer our clients seamless and instantaneous payment processing.”
