Deutsche Bank celebrates 20 years of partnership with Shakespeare’s Globe
London, UK — This year, Deutsche Bank celebrates 20 years of its flagship education partnership with Shakespeare’s Globe through Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank, a long-standing social impact initiative that has transformed access to arts education for young people across the UK.
Since 2006, the partnership has opened the doors of Shakespeare’s Globe to hundreds of thousands of state school students, many of whom might not otherwise experience live theatre. At the heart of Deutsche Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Education pillar, the programme combines cultural access with meaningful learning, helping young people build confidence, deepen understanding and connect with Shakespeare in dynamic ways.
Through live performances, workshops and digital learning resources, the programme brings Shakespeare’s plays from page to stage. Each year, a different Shakespeare play is adapted specifically for young audiences, ensuring the performances are relevant, dynamic and engaging. Productions have included iconic works such as Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth, and The Tempest, each interpreted in ways that resonate with contemporary young audiences while remaining faithful to Shakespeare’s original language.
Over the past two decades, the programme has grown into one of the UK’s most significant arts education initiatives. Annually, over 32,000 students attend the programme from London and Birmingham, alongside support for teachers and students across the UK through curriculum-linked resources and professional development.
Beyond the stage, the impact continues in classrooms and communities. Students develop critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills, while teachers report increased engagement and confidence among pupils studying complex texts. The programme’s digital microsite further extends its reach, providing flexible tools to support exam preparation and independent learning.
Deutsche Bank employees also play a key role, attending performances with friends and family as well as volunteering as stewards at performances to help deliver a welcoming and memorable experience for students. Clients are invited to attend performances at the Globe Theatre too, offering a unique opportunity to engage with the programme’s impact in a historic cultural setting at the heart of London.
“We are incredibly proud to celebrate 20 fantastic years of our partnership with Shakespeare’s Globe. Reaching more than 300,000 students from state secondary schools across London and Birmingham, we are delighted to have helped open doors to one of London’s most iconic cultural landmarks for so many.” Vathany Vijayaratna, Chief Executive Officer UK and Ireland, Deutsche Bank
