Deutsche Bank showing new art at ART HK 2010 in Hong Kong

Deutsche Bank lead sponsor of the up-and-coming art fair for the first time / The bank’s commitment underlines the changing significance of Asia for it

This year, Deutsche Bank is the lead sponsor of the young Hong Kong International Art Fair for the first time. The bank, which will be the main sponsor of of the fair for the next five years, is staging a number of its own art activities accompanying this year’s edition of ART HK (May 27-30, 2010).

With the exhibition "More Than Meets the Eye", which will be on view parallel to the art fair at the Hong Kong Goethe Institute (May 19 – June 12, 2010) and in Deutsche Bank’s VIP lounge at ART HK (May 26 – May 30, 2010), a new part of the corporate collection will be accessible to a wide public. "More Than Meets the Eye" presents a panorama of contemporary photo art and simultaneously offers an exclusive preview of the new art acquired for the bank’s Frankfurt headquarters, including works by a few Asian artists.

Deutsche Bank is one of the top three investment banks in Asia, with more than 18,000 employees in 17 Asian countries. The bank has been represented in Hong Kong for more than 50 years. The region is not only one of the bank’s main markets in Asia. In addition, Deutsche Bank will soon open its new main Asian branch in the ICC Tower Hong Kong. In the future, the bank will show a number of new artworks by budding Asian artists within the framework of its collection. 

This year’s edition of ART HK from May 27 to 30, under the direction of Magnus Renfrew, will boast the largest number of exhibitors ever in Asia. 150 participants from 29 countries have announced they will take part in this year’s art fair. Within a very short time, the fair has established itself as a cultural platform attracting Asian and international collectors, curators, museum people and dealers to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Under the motto "Art works", Deutsche Bank has made contemporary art widely accessible through its own collection, exhibitions and cooperative ventures around the world for over 30 years. Today, the Deutsche Bank Collection is one of the most significant corporate art collections in the world. The Deutsche Guggenheim, the Berlin exhibition hall that Deutsche Bank runs together with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, is a unique joint venture between a bank an a museum.
